Computer - TV Setup

If you have a modern TV, one way to watch all of the free video on the Internet is to connect your computer directly to your TV and use your TV as a huge computer monitor. It might sound scary but it's not too hard.

Using HDMI Connection

The best way to mirror your computer screen on your TV is to use an HDMI cable. All modern TV's and computers HDMI inputs, but the older models and some new ones may lack the HDMI input. You are going to have to check your computer to see if it has HDMI connector. If so, just connect an HDMI cable from your computer to your TV, select that input on your TV's menu, and you're good to go!

I should also add that you don't need additional audio cables because the HDMI cords transfer video and audio to the TV. If you are in need of an HDMI cord, the AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable is a great HDMI cable for just around $7. I personally use this cord and it does the job perfectly!

Using VGA Connection

If your computer doesn't have HDMI output, there's 2 options.

Option 1 If your computer and TV has VGA connection as shown below, you can set up that way with a perfect mirror of your computer screen.

Connect both VGA connectors together, then plug in your audio cord if you want the sound to come out of your TV's speakers. Then go to your TV menu and go to VGA source. With this connection, whatever shows up on your computer will show up on your TV including sound.

Option 2 You can use a VGA to HDMI Connector and get just about the same quality picture as you would with only a HDMI cord. A VGA to HDMI connection would look something like this

There are many converters out there on the market  but one that I personally can vouch for is the HDE VGA w/ Audio to HDMI 1080p Converter Box w/ DC Adapter

This VGA to HDMI converter box will run you about $20, but for the money, you cant beat the quality of this product.

iPad Connection

If you have an iPad, you can use the Lightning Digital AV Adapter and will get video and audio as clear as can be. It supports mirroring of what is displayed on your device screen to your HDMI-equipped TV, projector, or other compatible displays.

iPhone Connection

You can also mirror your iPhone as well using a Apple Digital AV Adapter. Just Like the Lightning Adapter above, it will mirror your iphone to TV or other compatible displays.

  2. HDMI cables is far more technically advanced than is actually needed right now, in fact, version 1.4 is able to support technologies that aren't yet found on the vast majority of home entertainment devices.
