Antennas

Taking a glimpse at the current prices of cable & satellite TV, many people today are opting out and going towards streaming internet TV and local broadcast television.

If you live in or near a large or medium-sized city, and you have a modern flat-panel TV, you should be able to receive hi-def TV for FREE over the air by using an antenna. The stations available are the major networks, ABC, PBS, GPBS, CBS, NBC, Fox, plus many other local stations. And you do not have to worry about picture quality as the picture quality is sometimes BETTER than what you get for paid cable TV!

Millions of people have already converted and Trashed Their Cable and Satellite Providers and now saving an average of $600 a year. All you need is a standard flat screen TV, and antenna, and if you still need more channels, you can subscribe to online streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime and get access to all the top TV shows, documentaries and movies.

If you have an older style TV without the necessary connectors, you'll need a converter box in order to use an antenna. Read about our suggested converter boxes here.

Picking Your Antenna

There are so many TV antennas on the market today and most practically do the job, but I have listed some antennas that I personally recommend and use in order to get Free TV without paid cable & satellite monthly bills.
Before buying an antenna, you need to find out how many channels are available in your area. To do this, you can visit http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/dtvmaps/ which is a simple to use website created by the FCC that allows you to find Free TV Station Signals in your area.

The Green Channels are channels that you should be able to use a simple non-amplified indoor antenna and get most of those channels, if not more! Check out my recommended indoor antennas below.

If you are getting Channels in Yellow, Brown and Red, you are going to need an amplified indoor antenna or an outdoor antenna in order to view the free channels and this is because you are not in close range to those broadcast stations. Skip ahead to the recommended amplified indoor antennas and outdoor antennas.

If you didn't get any channels at all, or just got orange ones, you are probably too far away from the transmitter towers to get good reception. If this is the case, I would recommend going strictly with  Internet TV services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime and get access to the shows you love.

Here are the Recommended Antennas!

Basic Antennas

RCA Indoor FM and HDTV Antenna

The Antenna shown above is a RCA Indoor FM and HDTV Antenna I purchased online from Amazon.com for about $10 and Free shipping with the Amazon Prime. Here is a Free 30 Day Trial that I think you will benefit from if you order a lot of things off Amazon. Join Amazon Prime - Listen to Over a Million Songs - Start Free Trial Now

This antenna I personally feel was a great investment that has already paid for itself over ten times already. It can be placed anywhere on a table or entertainment center near your TV. It has the Integrated loop for digital and analog channels 14-69 and the Dipoles extend and adjust for digital and analog channels 2-13.

Setting Up the Antenna was very easy, and once it was all hooked up, i was able to get ABC, FOX, PBS, NBC, CBS, a few Spanish channels, Christian channels, Kids channels and some other local stations. In all, I gained 28 Channels total all for FREE.

In all, if you are are looking for a simple cheap antenna, this should be one to consider. Great Price, Great Reception, and Easy to Set Up.

AmazonBasics Ultra-Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna

The Antenna shown here is the AmazonBasics Ultra-Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna that I also purchased from Amazon.com for about $25.00. This is actually my favorite and I have this in my bedroom. Like the RCA Antenna above, I was able to pick up all the same channels including 6 extra channels. One thing I should note is that they make several antennas like this one with different signal strengths ranging from 25 miles to 60 miles. The one you see in the picture is a 35 mile range AmazonBasics Antenna.

It's very compact and easy to mount, the antenna works just as well in living rooms, bedrooms, large and small houses, apartments, studios, dorm rooms, and workshops. It can even be placed in your RV for TV reception from town to town or during a tailgating party.

Amplified Indoor Antennas

AmazonBasics Ultra-Thin Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna - 50 Mile Range

The antenna shown here is the AmazonBasics Ultra-Thin Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna - 50 Mile Range which is the same as the above antenna but way stronger. It has a 50 mile range reception and will pick up all the channels you need plus more depending on your location. The main reason for purchasing a stronger antenna would be to pick up the channels that are not currently showing with your current antenna or mainly to just receive some reception because you are out of close range from the broadcast station.

The main difference with this one is that it comes with a USB Cable Wall Plug which gives this its amplified status. It comes with a 110v power adapter and a 5v USB power inverter with an LED power indicator.

It also comes with an extra-long 18-foot coaxial cable that easily plugs directly into your HDTV. Simply plug it in, mount, and scan for channels. You can get the AmazonBasics Antenna here

Mohu Leaf 50 Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna

The antenna above is a Mohu Leaf 50 Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna that is very powerful. This is the newest version of their amplified antennas which is going for a decent price. This antenna is equipped with the CleanPeak Filter technology which filters out cellular and FM signals, resulting in a clearer picture and allowing access to more channels.

It is multi-directional and Reversible comes with included 16 ft. high performance cable that gives you a great range of 50 miles. The amplifier’s USB powering option gives the antenna more signal boost allowing the weakest signals to be received and viewed. The amplified antenna turns on and off with your television when using the TV's USB port to power the amplifier.

Outdoor Antennas

Amplified HD Digital Outdoor HDTV Antenna with Motorized 360 Degree Rotation

The antenna show above here is the Amplified HD Digital Outdoor HDTV Antenna with Motorized 360 Degree Rotation made by SF Cable. I've done some research on this antenna and so far, everything about this antenna seems to be great. For only $34.00, you can get all the Free TV Stations just as you will get them with the antennas listed above.

Setting up is relatively easy but may require a few extra items to properly install.  You will need a
Mounting Pole which is not included. The Pole required is 1-1 1/8". You will also need a screw driver to tighten up the antenna to the pole. It has a Built-in 360 degree motor rotor that turns both ways to prevent cable from getting tangled. The wireless remote controller is for rotor to change the direction to get the best signal without having to manually move it.

It runs on an AC15V 300mA motor powered by coax cable that runs from the control box to the antenna. The  Power outlet is not required outside where the antenna is mounted and can be plugged inside safely.
